The Haverfordwest County Academy played games against Pontardawe Academy in three age groups on Sunday 4th October.
Pontardawe took an early lead with a glancing header from close range but as Haverfordwest got some rhythm into their passing Morgan Thomas scored with a powerful cross shot to level the scores. There was some excellent possession play from the visitors as befitting this age group. The quality of the play and good finishing was reflected in the half-time score of 1-2. Rotation of the players kept the energy levels high in the latter stages of the game and further goals were added by the young bluebirds. The home team hit the post on two occasions though and this was a hard earned win.
Goal Scorers for Haverfordwest County were Morgan Thomas (3), Kieron Howells and Curtis Hicks.

The bluebirds team was always in contention to get a good result from this match and created several goalscoring opportunities. Pontardawe were, however, a well organised team with several individual players who ran threateningly at the visiting defence. Dylan Noot seemed to have saved a point for his team with a penalty save at the end, but was beaten soon after as a visiting striker ran through unopposed to nod the ball in for the winner.
Goal Scorers for Haverfordwest County were James Hill and Joseph Griffiths

This was the first outing of the season for this squad and although they took some time to adjust to the pace of play, their overall performance was promising. The 9 v 9 format is strange to some but what turned out to be a close scoreline gave Angela Nicholls some encouragement as the team prepares for its next match.
Goal Scorers for Haverfordwest County were Teejay Gardner, Jack Jones and Iwan Howells.
