This was the first game of the season for the home team and it was not surprising that they took a while to settle down. The alertness of Nicholas Jones in the home goal thwarted several Afan Lido attacks, with timely interventions when the defence was beaten. As the game settled the young bluebirds mid-field passing began to improve but Curtis Hicks and Max Brindley still needed to be very alert to the danger through the middle. An excellent ground shot from 20 yards put Afan Lido ahead emphasising that good shooting wins matches. Morgan Thomas later got Haverfordwest back on level terms but Afan Lido were not content with the 1-1 scoreline and put pressure on the home defence by scoring an excellent headed goal from a corner on their left. Haverfordwest put in more effort as the game progressed and the 2-1 deficit never looked the likely final score. The visitor's goal had some miraculous escapes from moves often set up by Travis O'Connor whose quality corner on the right produced an excellent cross, which Curtis Hicks headed powerfully in to earn his team the draw they richly deserved.

Haverfordwest Academy under 14s got off to a winning start as they played their first league game against Afan Lido on Sunday 20th September.
It was a very good match to watch as both teams pushed forward playing attacking football. It was good to see both sets of Academy lads going for the win. The half time score of 2-2 was testament to those attacking ambitions.
