The bluebirds eventually prevailed in what was a pretty scrappy match, beating Croesyceiliog by the odd goal in three.
In a game with precious few highlights the first two goals were both memorable. Greg Walters hammered home a bending drive from outside the box late in the first half. This was answered by a spectacular volley from the Croesyceiliog number nine McGrath early in the second half. He turned on a dropping ball 30 yards from goal, sweetly connected with a volley and the ball flew into the corner of Conah McFenton's net. Only McGrath himself will know whether he intended it as a shot but either way the scores were level.
Bluebirds dominated possession throughout the game but their superior energy and fitness began to show in the last half an hour as the pressure became relentless. Finally the goal came as Walters crossed for Speake to glance a header into the net.
So...not a classic but a win is a win and the club are delighted to be in the hat for the next round.
