Club Statement

It is with great sadness that Haverfordwest County FC announce the resignation of Gavin Chesterfield as Manager with immediate effect. Unfortunately Gavin felt that due to the travelling commitments involved with working in Gloucester and living in Cardiff,he was unable to give the job his entire commitment and felt that, whilst enjoying the challenge of staving off relegation, it was only fair to the club, its players and supporters that he resigns and gives the club and any new manager, the best possible chance of staying in the Welsh Premier.
Chesterfield commented, ‘This is not a decision that I have come to lightly, but even though the timing will shock a few, I feel that this is in the best interests of the club going forward. I’m a manager who has to give 100% and I felt that I was selling the club and myself short in accepting anything less. We have implemented some new structures behind the scenes that will benefit the club greatly in the future and I sincerely wish the club well. I especially want to thank Chairman Rob Summons and Director David Hughes for the belief that they have shown in me and hopefully, I have proven to them that, given the right circumstances, I have the ability to succeed at Welsh Premier League level’.
The Club Chairman  thanked  Mr. Chesterfield for all the hard work he had delivered under difficult circumstances. He continued, “Gavin will become a top manager in time. His organisation, man management and disciplinary skills are outstanding and his understanding of the game is first class too. He has made  a strong impression in his short stay at the club and we wish him well in his future career”

Having been aware of this situation for a few days, the Club has had to move quickly in deciding to reappoint Mr. Derek Brazil to the post of manager and he will take up that position with immediate effect. Mr Brazil said, “Having received a phone call from the Chairman this afternoon, I must say that did come as a great shock. I understand the  difficult situation that the Club currently find themselves in and I have accepted the stiff challenge that is ahead of me. I have previously spent seven and a half years as a player and manager at this club and this was an opportunity that I could not turn down”
Mr Brazil continued, “Regarding the decision that the Club made last November, with hindsight it was probably the right one for both parties. It has given me valuable time to spend with my family and I have certainly been able to recharge my batteries. I now feel determined and with unfinished business to complete I have much more to give as a manager.”

A club spokesman said, “ Derek was certainly in need of a break but I’m sure that he will come back better than ever. He knows the majority of the players in the squad very well and we feel that he is now fresh and eager for the tough task ahead.”
The Club will be making an announcement within the next 48 hours as to who Mr. Brazil will appoint as his first team coach.
